abstract:
Dimethyl ditelluride, CH3TeTeCH3, is a suitable organometallic gaseous precursor of tellurium. We describe a detailed investigation of the laser-induced photochemistry of CH3TeTeCH3 monitored by tunable dye laser multiphoton ionization time-of-flight mass spectroscopy with nanosecond and picosecond laser pulses. In the blue spectral region, we observe the formation of the Te atoms and CH3TeCH3 molecules. With KrF excimer laser (248 nm) irradiation in the UV, however, the formation of metal dimers Te2 is identified, and an estimation of the internal energy distribution of the Te2 photofragments is given. © 1986 American Chemical Society.
