Abstract:
In Sardinia a long lasting intense volcanic activity took place towards the end of the Oligocene. During the waning phases of this volcanism, a significant hydrothermal activity developed producing local alteration and precious and base-metal mineralizations as epithermal high and low sulphidation veins. At the Furtei gold deposit the main orebody in the Santu Miali sector is examined with respect to the deep sampling of this hill that helped to define orebody shape, the spatial evolution of the system with the vertical extent of mineralization and associated hydrothermal alteration patterns. The drilling also showed the continuity of the system below the oxidized zone suggesting a potential for additional reserves and discoveries.
