abstract:
For the ancient Plato is the architect who organizes and directs the work of mathematicians. Today seems dubious the tradition that attributes him the authorship of discoveries, like that of irrational or analysis. Surely, however he is influenced by mathematics of his time and at the same time he inluences them, by their principles, objects, aims. No coincidence that the Academy, is a point of reference for figures such as Theodore of Cyrene, Theaetetus, Eudoxus.
