Il Giudicato di Calari tra XI e XIII secolo. Proposte di interpretazioni istituzionali
Academic Article
Publication Date:
2010
abstract:
The paper proposes an institutional and legal status of the Iudices
of Calari - the direct descendants of the ancient Iudices Provinciae of
Sardinia, created by the Emperor Justinian in the 6th century AD -
from the time of their appearance in the documentary sources in the
second half of the 11th century until their disappearance to the mid-
13th century especially by the hand of the town of Pisa.
The paper shows the process followed by these political and
institutional Sardinian leaders in an attempt to be legally recognized
as sovereigns outside the Sardinian regional authorities, especially by
the Italian Republics, by the Apostolic See and the Holy Roman
Empire.
