Prediction of the Turning Qualities Characteristics of the KVLCC2 by CFD

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2014
abstract:
The 35° turning circle manoeuver of the KVLCC2 is simulated numerically by means of the globally second order accurate finite volume solver ?navis. To this purpose, the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations and the Euler equation are coupled to predict the rigid body motions; the solver adopt a Chimera approach to deal with the relative motions of grid blocks. The effect of the propeller is modelled by the Hough and Ordway actuator disk properly modified to account for the propeller side force.
