abstract:
The main mechanistic aspects related to the combustion of tyre derived fuel (TDF) in bubbling fluidized bed are analyzed in the framework of the activities carried out in the last five years in Naples. The aim is to highlight the relevance of particle fragmentation and volatile matter segregation/postcombustion phenomena to the assessment of the optimal operating conditions for combustion of TDF. A design strategy, based on the use of fluidized bed reactors with internal solids circulation, for the maximization of volatile matter and fine char combustion in the dense region of the combustor is considered. The effectiveness of the proposed strategy is assessed by some preliminary theoretical considerations.
