Accumulo microbiologico in Spongia officinalis var. adriatica (Schmidt) (Porifera, Demospongiae).

To evaluate the microbiological accumulation capability in the demosponge Spongia officinalis var. adriatica, six microbiological parameters were studied in the water and in sponge samples coming from an off-shore fish-farm displaced off the Apulian coast (Southern Adriatic Sea). The densities of culturable heterotrophic bacteria, vibrios, total culturable bacteria at 37° C, total and fecal coliforms as well as fecal streptococci were higher in the sponge samples compared with the corresponding seaweater.
