The sostitution of two hydrogen atoms by methyl group in the position of 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppe) gives meso- and rac-2,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane. The corresponding Pd(II) complexes are catalyst precursoror for the alternating copolymerization and terpolymerization of carbon monoxide and ethene/propene
