Eumelanin 3D architectures: Electrospun PLA fiber templating for mammalian pigment microtube fabrication

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
Eumelanin microtubular architectures have been fabricated via a robust and versatile procedure involving electrospinning, spin coating, and solid state oxidative polymerization, that allows to control both inner and outer diameters of the tubes. The access to eumelanin microtubular architectures, based on a "tube over template" approach, proved the unprecedented and unexpected moldability of this biocompatible pigment and expanded the scope of eumelanin exploitation in material science applications.
