A fulleropyrrolidine-acetylide-Pt(II)-terpyridyl dyad: electrochemical and photophysical properties

Conference Poster
Publication Date:
2009
abstract:
The interest in the properties of d8 Pt(II) terpyridyl acetylides complexes has largely increased in the recent years.1 The presence of the acetylide ligand in the fourth coordination position improves the luminescence of terpyridyl Pt(II) complexes and their photophysical properties open promising perspectives in sensing and energy conversion applications. Fullerene units as part of supramolecular systems have been subject of extensive studies in view of applications related to charge separation and energy conversion.2 Here we report on the first case wherein a Pt(II)-terpyridine unit is linked to fullerene. The dyad Pt-Fu (Scheme 1) has been prepared and its electrochemical and photophysical properties have been studied and compared with those of the isolated components. Upon excitation of the Pt unit a complete Pt - Fu energy transfer process is observed. Analysis of this process and details on the excited-state dynamics in dyad Pt-Fu will be presented.
