Comparison of geological and geophysical prospecting techniques in the study of a landslide in southern Italy

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2000
abstract:
In this paper we present the results of a new combined geophysical approach in the study of a landslide located in the southern Apennines, Italy. In particular, we used the electrical imaging and the broadband seismic microtremor techniques to delineate the sliding surface and the thickness of the mobilised material. The results were compared with the data obtained from a deep geological and geomorphological survey and from the analysis of aerial photographs and boreholes. The agreement between the results obtained from the application of several geophysical and geological methodologies can be noted. The integrated use of electrical imaging and a sonic survey shows this approach to be a possible powerful tool for investigating landslide areas characterised by very complex geology.
