INTERVENTI "SUPERFICIALI": QUESTIONI DI METODO E SOLUZIONI TECNICHE DI INTERVENTO. IPOTESI A CONFRONTO

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2023
abstract:
The surfaces of buildings of historical value or cultural and technological testimony often connote the urban environments: the identity of places is closely intertwined with the authenticity of artefacts and it is easy to recall the relationship between locally available materials and the aesthetic outcomes of architectural surfaces. This link, more evident in widespread examples of pre-modern architecture, also persists in many examples of modern architecture. In different cases, the current use of local and traditional materials can be widely reevalued. Interventions on the built environment will probably always be suspended between tradition and innovation; the key is to find the balance between these, through processes of anamnesis, supported by suitable diagnostic and knowledge tools. The case studies proposed are part of multidisciplinary research programmes at the Polytechnic of Turin, DISEG, (in collaboration with CNR-ISTEC); the ongoing work is strongly oriented towards application aspects, to define good practices for recovery and maintenance interventions. The proposed examples concern historic building surfaces in different contexts: - the façades of buildings characterising the town centre and the historical building fabric of the Municipality of Agliè (Turin); the façades covered with ceramic elements of Olivetti buildings in Ivrea (Turin), UNESCO World CH List site (representative of difficulty in face the instances of preservation, since the materials used during construction are no longer available). It is shown that from a methodological point of view, the approach directed towards the planned conservation, maintenance and enhancement of architectural heritage does not change significantly.
