Who to believe? Trust and meta-trust dimensions for Information sources

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2014
abstract:
On the ground our analysis about trust and in particular of trust in information sources, we extend this approach to the argumentation about (pros/cons) a give piece of information, candidate belief, by arguing about its sources. We will consider the different sources for 'trusting a piece of information' (the degree/strength of its 'credibility') and analyse them in the perspective of finding arguments supporting or contradicting it. In particular we will present possible maneuvers in form of attack and discredit moves against the source, based on the various origins on trust-beliefs about F: personal experience, reputation, reasoning, .... In fact we state that, once identified all the components that influence trust in a given information source, any kind of support/attack has to deal with these components.
