Experimental Analysis of the Wave induced Response of a Fast Monohull Via a Segmented-Hull Model

abstract:
In order to investigate the vertical bending moment and the vertical shear force response of a high-speed vessel in head waves, a segmented model, based on the backbone technique, was constructed. The model consists of six segments connected to an elastic beam whose sections are shaped in order to give the proper stiffness in bending. Thus, it was possible to scale the low frequency bending modes in addition to the rigid body features. The dependence of the response amplitude operations on the forward speed and wave spectrum excitation was investigated with several combinations of the ship speed and sea condition; moreover, 3D plots of the bending moment distribution with respect to both time and frequency are shown, and some results concerning the hydroelastic behavior of the ship are presented too.
