Single-stage hydrogen production and separation from fossil fuels using micro- and macromembrane reactors

Chapter
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
In the past years, hydrogen has attracted particular attention as an energy carrier for various applications and, in special case, for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) supply. Nevertheless, PEMFCs require high grade hydrogen, with some drawbacks about storage and transportation. Therefore, in situ hydrogen generation and its separation from fossil fuels has regarded many studies in the specialized literature. Indeed, in the field of hydrogen production and purification in a single stage, there has been a comprehensive literature about inorganic macro membrane reactors utilization, but a limited literature about micro membrane reactors. Thus, the chapter illustrates the earlier state of the art from an experimental point of view on the hydrogen production and separation from fossil fuels in both micro and macro membrane reactors.
