Sol-gel synthesis, structure and bioactivity of poly(caprolactone)/CaO.SiO2 hybrid material

Academic Article
Publication Date:
2004
abstract:
A method has been developed to cast novel organic/inorganic polymer hybrids from multicomponent solutions containing tetramethyl orthosilicates, calcium nitrate tetrahydrate, polycaprolactone, water and methylethylketone, via sol-gel process. The existence of hydrogen bonds between organic and inorganic components of the hybrid anfd hydroxyapatite formation on the surface was proven by FTIR analysis. The morphology was studied by SEM.The structure of molecular level dispersion was disclosed by AFM, pore size distribution and surface measurement. The FTIR spectra of the hybrid soaked in simulated body fluid duggested that PCL/Ca0.SiO2 hybrid materials synthetised by sol-gel process is bioactive as well as the Cao.SiO2 gel glass.
