abstract:
The Regional Nature Reserve of the Isonzo's Mouth is the most northern wetland in the Mediterranean Sea. In this area macrobenthic invertebrates have a significant trophic role: they cover all the consumers roles and represent an important food resource for fish communities and for many migratory and stantial birds species living in the Reserve. For these reasons, we carried out qualitative and quantitative analysis of the macrobenthic invertebrate communities in the area where human impact is lower, in order to increase the knowledge gained with previous studies. Samples were collected in 5 sites, in different conditions of water depth and vegetation cover; 10,836 specimens were identified. The most frequent taxa were Diptera and Oligochaeta. Finally, relationships between macrobenthic invertebrates community and main chemical and physical parameters were discussed.
