abstract:
In the last century, with the increase of global population, the world water demand also dramatically increased. The access to clean water sources is essential for humans and for all the activities related to the prosperity of our society (agriculture, industry, energy production). To meet the growing global demand for fresh water, new efficient strategies and technologies must be put in place to preserve natural water resources and reuse treated wastewaters. Various materials, processes and technologies are nowadays available for achieving an efficient purification and treatment of wastewaters and their reuse in different sectors. Hence, the purpose of this special issue (SI) is to explore the current status and sharing the recent advances in the different approaches employed for the treatment of water from different contaminants (e.g. organic compounds, inorganic salts, microorganisms).
