Abstract:
In this paper, we investigate the finite strain formulation
of a previously proposed model for shape memory
alloys in the small strain regime. The derivation is based
on the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation
gradient into elastic and transformation parts and
utilizing the thermodynamics of irreversible process
with internal variables. Some boundary value problems
are considered to compare the effects of finite
deformation in shape memory alloys-based structures.
Finally we discuss on the limitation of small-strain
based constitutive models in simulating shape memory
alloy devices.
