The article examines the origin and development of the cult to Our Lady of Bonaria as protectress of sailors from the sea dangers.The cult developed in Cagliari after the Catalan Aragonese conquest of Sardinia (XIV century) and spread, through the merchants and seamen, around the Mediterranean basin. The article also dwells on the hypothesis that the cult to Our Lady of Bonaria has given rise to the name of the capital of Argentine, Buenos Aires.
