abstract:
This note has been inspired by a series of documents recently found in the Central
State Archives in Rome. These documents contain unknown informations related
to an exceptional hoard of Norman tari`, accidentally discovered in 1902, in the
Castiglione di Sicilia's area (Catania). Furthermore, they shed new light on this
site as well as on the dynamics in the antiquity market of acquisition and dispersion
of the Norman coinage, which was difficult to classify, until the beginning
of XX Century. The thirteen specimens catalogued and studied in this paper
are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Syracuse.
