abstract:
Evidence illustrated in this paper are part of a wider and still in progress diachronic study of the landscape of Vulci, enclosed by Arrone and Chiarone streams. Hereby, I discuss the Roman secondary road system between Vulci, the via Aurelia and the coastal strip which still uses the pre-280 BC conquest road tracks, except rare routes that in the absence of excavation data cannot be convincingly dated. The research is based on the study of historical cartography, on surveying and above all on a careful multitemporal interpretation and mapping of aerial photographs.
