abstract:
The examination of the different interventions carried out on a single building over
more than a century offers the opportunity to notice the change of philosophy and
operating procedures of restoration over time.
The analysis of the documentation concerning the restoration interventions carried
out on the Juvarrian façade of Palazzo Madama in Turin, starting from the mid-
XIXth century until today, allows to identify both the principles that guided the
restorers in the choice of the modalities of intervention and the change in materials
and operating techniques adopted. The latter are the result of the evaluation of both
the outcomes and the critical issues that emerged from previous interventions, and
of what the market was and still is able to offer. This work is carried out through
the analysis of the operational results taking into account also the disciplinary
recommendations elaborated in the time frame considered
