Researchers belonging to the LTER-Italy network have realized, since 2015, an informal science communication initiative called "Cammini LTER": travelling events, taking place in slow mode - by walking, cycling or kayaking - along itineraries connecting two or more LTER sites, crossing different landscapes of the Italian territory. The main objective of the initiative is to engage a wide audience in the aims and activities of LTER-Italy in order to increase the awareness on the importance of studying ecosystems and biodiversity over long periods. Cammini intend as well to evidence and strengthen the sense of belonging and the responsibility, which must be shared both by those who live in and those who study a territory. Researchers in Cammini experiment new responses to the changes taking place in science and ecology and to environmental and social challenges that require everyone, including scientists, to redefine roles and responsibility.
