Oxidn. of isoxazolinones I (R = Ph, CO2Et, Me; R1 = CO2Et, Ph, PhCH2, Me, Et, Me2CHCH2, octyl, dodecyl, hexadecyl,
CHEtPh) with m-ClC6H4C(O)OOH and HC(O)OOH gave the corresponding hydroxy compds. II, which by heating in
vacuo or by refluxing in C6H6 contg. Et3N or diazabicyclononene gave R1COCO2H and RCN.
