Did@Browser: A Tool To Support The Surfing Activities Of Students

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2004
abstract:
The aim of this paper is to present a new technological solution called Did@browser, which has been specifically designed to support students during web browsing. The use of the web as a learning tool, in which browsing is driven by a specific learning objective, is increasingly common at school because of the new opportunities the web offers. It is well known that in order to use the web effectively for learning purposes, certain skills are necessary. Students need to be able to reflect on the way they browse the web, to recognize the key elements of browsing, to be aware of the reason why they select a particular link, and to browse in accordance with the learning objective at hand. The idea underlying the Did@browser system is to help teachers guide students lacking confidence in web browsing to acquire the above mentioned skills.
