abstract:
Ferritin is the main iron storage protein in living systems. Recent studies demonstrated that the chemical species present in the ferritin core and their chemical coordination can be different between physiological and pathological ferritin proteins. Therefore it is of paramount importance revealing the presence of metals other than iron and their oxidation state in the protein core.
