abstract:
Numerical simulations and their theoretical interpretation of the formation of standing
electromagnetic solitons produced in a regime of pulsating stimulated Brillouin scattering are
presented. The localized field structures are stable, long-living entities and their physical properties
are in very good agreement with theoretical predictions of electromagnetic solitons in a hot and
dense plasma. They are the final outcome of a specific mode-coupling regime that can be attained
for high laser intensities via the transient excitation of kinetic electrostatic nonlinear electron
modes.
