abstract:
The paper summarizes an essentially in-situ study for ground control at an Alpine underground white marble quarry. Rock material and rock mass structure have been characterized through laboratory tests and geo-structural exploration. The rock mass stress condition and a displacement monitoring was tested at a number of quarry locations. No evidence of appreciable deformation was experienced, but a high stress state was observed, showing the interaction effect between the mountain side and the underground excavations. Furthermore, a 2D and 3D BEM analysis is given for comparison.
