abstract:
We computed the residual multiparticle entropy of a classical system
of penetrable particles, softly repelling each other through a bounded
Gaussian potential, and traced out the ordering line associated with the
vanishing of this quantity in the fluid phase. The comparison with the
reentrant fluid-solid coexistence line shows that a congruent indication of the local ordering process that is ultimately responsible for the freezing - at low temperatures - of the dilute fluid under compression as well as of the dense fluid upon expansion is unambiguously rooted in the configurational entropy of the disordered phase.
