Un contributo alla storia della tecnica manifatturiera dall'area di Pian delle Groppere (Casanova di Rovegno - Ge)

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2001
abstract:
The studies on the historical reconstruction of some local manufacturing techniques, especially mining and metallurgical techniques, are pursued within the research conducted by the History of Technology Study Center (Centro di Studio sulla Storia della Tecnica) of the Italian National Research Council (Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - CNR). The finding of various artifacts in ancient production sites, or as a result of study campaigns on sites of historical and environmental interest, suggests the need to examine and broaden our historical and technical knowledge by involving other disciplines. In this context, since 2000, a collaboration has started between the CSST - CNR (E. Baraldi and G. Ghiglione) and the Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry Department (Dipartimento di Chimica e Chimica Industriale - DCCI), University of Genoa, (E. Franceschi and colleagues) to develop the coordinated research project: Identification of Materials Such As Documents of Historical Interest To Be Subjected to Chemical-Physical Non-Destructive Analysis, using a new equipment that allows to proceed with a strictly non-destructive method. Surveys conducted by the Laboratory of Environmental Archeology and History (Laboratorio di Archeologia e Storia Ambientale - LASA) during a Campaign in Val Trebbia (see Campana, Cevasco, in these Proceedings) have led to the finding of a particular artifact - part of a clay tube - that was probably used as an oven air duct. The CSST managed a first series of tests on the find, whose results are presented at this International Meeting. The tests have been conducted by laboratories coordinated by ISCUM (Institute of the History of Material Culture) in order to provide a reliable answer on the usage of this unique ceramic artifact found in Pian delle Groppere site (Casanova di Rovegno - Genoa).
