The restoration of the boveda baroque Cathedral of Valencia and the curiosity of research have led to the discovery of the Angels exceptional musicians, who were painted between 1472 and 1478, by Paolo di San Francesco Pagano Leocadio and two Italian painters that Rodrigo Borgia had wanted with him on the trip to Valencia 1471 For over three hundred years had been hidden , covered by the seventeenth-century baroque structure . Discovered in 2004, were restored by Carmen Pérez García and the Institut de Valencià Conservació ; in January 2007 was organized to decide their fate , a conference in the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes of Valencia. It was decided then that the angels were freed and the Baroque time would definitely be removed. During the meeting, the proposal was also an exhibition in Rome Angels and a conference , it was a moment of encounter between scholars of different sensitivities and that would lead to a better understanding of what has been revealed as one of the first grandiose projections outside d ' Italian culture Italian Renaissance figurative . The conference in Rome has revived and gave answers to the many questions that unexpected reappearance of the frescoes had posed : has recomposed the artistic biographies of the two artists ; has verified the significance of the commission of Rodrigo Borgia and the Chapter of the cathedral ; analyzed the costumes of angels and musical instruments depicted ; investigated the luck of the frescoes in the figurative ( and not only) in Spain ; illustrated the delicate phases of the restoration , the choices made to achieve it, the difficulties faced . The frescoes of the Cathedral were a time of the meeting, in the fifteenth century , between the Italian and Spanish cultures and relations between the Spanish company and the Italian company ; reappeared , have resulted in our day a happy meeting of the Italian culture and Spanish , as witnessed by this volume
