abstract:
Sawing yields of Norway Spruce and quality of sawn timber
Sawing yields of 135 logs of Norway Spruce (Picea abies L. (Karst.)) from Eastern sector of alpine
chain (Trentino Region) were studied: the mean sawing yields were about 74,6 %. The quality of
sawn timber was evaluated through the Grading Rules (for non-structural purposes) locally used. In
order to compare the quality of various provenance, a Quality Index (in Euro/m³) providing the
potential value of logs expressed as the value of sawn timber graded, was used: the worst logs
provided 140 Euro/m³ Q.I. whilst the best ones provided 225 Euro/m³ Q.I.
