abstract:
In this article the authors treat several physical principles involved in the study of weathering of monuments. In particular, thermo-hygrometrical cycles, deposition processes, and condensation into the pores have been analyzed. There are also some examples, i.e. The Scrovegni Chapel, the Sistine Chapel, Leonardo's "Last Supper", the Trajan and Antonin columns, etc., where the authors studied these phenomena.
