Abstract:
The Evidence Project aimed at providing a Road Map (guidelines, recommendations, and technical standards) for realising the missing Common Euro- pean Framework for the systematic and uniform application of new technologies in the collection, use and exchange of evidence. The increasing complexity of today's digital forensics analyst activities de- pends on a multiple of elements that include, but are not limited to the following:
the increasing number of devices;
the different operating systems;
the huge number of applications, in particular devoted to mobile devices the different file formats to interpret and process.
The effectiveness of a forensic investigation depends mainly on the forensic analyst's expertise and experience but also on the availability of forensics tools being able to extract and interpret data (potential evidence) quickly.The availability of a digital forensics tools Catalogue, organised into various categories including the supported features for each product, allow the forensic analyst to identify the most suitable tool for their investigative case.
