A cyanobacterial species belonging to Leptolyngbyagenus has been isolated from the marine sponge Petrosia ficiformis and cultured in laboratory conditions. Aqueous extracts from this Leptolyngbya strainshowed a biological activity, influencing Artemia salina vitality, being cytotoxic with human erythrocytes and interfering with the sea urchin development.
