Academic Article
Publication Date:
2015
abstract:
Abstract: The GC-FID-MS analyses of the essential oil of Piper pedicellatum collected in the region of Arunachal Pradesh of North East India allowed individuating 86 components, 84 of which were characterized. Sesquiterpenes are the mostly represented components accounting for ca. 73 % of total oil. Germacrene is the main compound with 41 %, followed by ?-caryophyllene, bicyclogermacrene and E-nerolidol, with 7.5, 5.2 and 4.7 %, respectively. Among the monoterpenes the hydrocarbons reach the 17 % ca., being ?-myrcene (9.0 %) the main component, whereas the oxygenated ones contribute below 3 %. Finally, among the non terpenoid components it is to underline the presence of pyrrole (2.1 %). This is the first report on the chemical composition of the essential oil of this species.
