abstract:
This article is a detailed study of the recent changes to the definition of maritime zones in the Mediterranean. Formerly, the Mediterranean was seen as an exceptional kind of closed or semi-closed sea with large areas that were defined as high seas. Today it is becoming a compartimentalized area, where each coastal State defines functional-type exclusive zones, which vary from one State to the next: exclusive zones, ecological protection zones, mixed zones. The author has studied the legitimacy of these different zones and suggests new and original ways of considering the question.
