abstract:
To develop wind farms projects both onshore and offshore in coastal area is challenging due to the effect of the coastal discontinuity
of the surface characteristics. Especially the shape of the vertical wind profiles and then of the vertical profiles of the shape
parameter c of the Weibull distribution are impacted by the atmospheric internal boundary layers developing from the coast along
the wind direction. Here, we present first results from a unique database: one year of vertical wind profiles of wind speed and
direction, monitoring programme at a coastal site located in the Calabria Region, 600m from the Tyrrhenian coastline, with a Lidar
Doppler, ZephIr (ltd). We show cases of daily variation of vertical profiles of wind speed and directions local scale circulations
versus the large scale conditions. Furthermore we present vertical profiles of the Weibull wind distribution c parameter and wind
rose vertical variation.
