Variability and interactions of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton in the Varano lagoon (Adriatic Sea).

Bacterial abundance was investigated in Varano lagoon for a twelve month period. Its concentrations were found to be quite high (1.8 ± 2.2 x 109 cells l-1) as well as being coupled with phytoplankton biomass and P content. However, an inverse relationship with nitrogen was detected.
