Ontology-driven approach to cell image analysis

A Cell Image Analysis Ontology - CIAO - is introduced for aiding the automation of quantitative cytological analysis. CIAO aims at standardizing the cytology and cytometry terminology and structuring domains inherent cell biology, microscopy and feature-based analysis of microscopic images, by introducing their formal and precise formulation. As a result, we present a tool developed for testing CIAO in the diagnosis of haematopoietic diseases.
