abstract:
The intention of recovery of the ancient brick kiln in the Tenuta di Sticciano for purpose of historical documentation and didactic fruition as evidence of a site of industrial archaeology, was the occasion for a Stratigraphic and archaeometric research, preliminary to restoration. The study enabled us to obtain important information on the constructive phases of the kiln, operative
conditionsandalsotocontextualizetheproductionactivityandthemarkettowhichitwasaddressed.
The analysis of materials taken from this complex permitted to reveal the nature of a protective coating of
brick facings of the firing chamber, confirmed that the plant produced lime together with the bricks, and that the raw material for the building of the plant and for brick production came from an earby quarry. This study is the basis for a recovery project that is really respectful of all the evidences of the productive
activity.
