Chapter
Publication Date:
2013
abstract:
The growing interest for organic or natural products in phytotherapy and textile sector could be stimulated by increasing consumer awareness of the intrinsic additional value of the natural product, such as phytomedicine, food integrators, textile fibers and natural colorants, and the abatement of higher costs of production by exploiting some wastes or by-products of fiber production in other sectors than textile. The aim of the present Project was devoted to integrate the scientific know-how in the analytic, phytochemical and pharmacological field, in order to obtain results able in identifying new plants matrices, such as Urtica dioica L, Daphne gnidium L., Lavandula stoechas L., Reseda luteola L., Rubia tinctoria L. and Rubia peregrina L., for different uses in textile, food, phytochemistry and cosmetic industry. One of the natural dyes (Daphne gnidium L.), applied to wool fabrics, was also evaluated for its possible biological activity against clothes moth.
