The evolution of digital library systems: from openDLib to DILIGENT

This paper presents the architectures of both the OpenDLib library and of the DILIGENT infrastructure motivating why we moved from one to the other and showing how they contribute to the definition of appropriate technologies for digital libraries. OpenDLib is a digital library system based on a dynamically configurable service-oriented architecture which can be distributed on several hosting nodes. DILIGENT is a digital library infrastructure built as a service-oriented application of the Grid infrastructure released by the EGEE Project. The new architectural framework underlying DILIGENT allows to support a new approach to the construction of digital libraries and offers an environment for the implementation of better quality and innovative services.
