Effetti dell'aerosol marino sulla salute umana: indagine epidemiologica su un campione georefernziato della popolazione adulta di Livorno

The study aims to evaluate the effects of the exposure to marine aerosol on the prevalence of asthma in a general population sample living in Livorno. GIS functions (geocoding, buffering) are used to classify population according to the distance of subjects' residences from the seaside. Moreover distance from main industrial pollution sources are included in the model. Statistical analyses (chi square test and multiple logistic regression model) are performed. Results indicate statistically significant associations between living near the seaside (within 300m) and manifesting asthma or related symptoms for females. Then exposure to industrial air pollution is associated to cough and chronic phlegm.
