Griechen und Etrusker: Kulturtransfer zwischen Sitten und Mode

Conference Paper
Publication Date:
2014
abstract:
The diffusion of Greek culture and mythology in Etruria was largely incremented by the scenes painted on the Greek vases, which the Etruscans as main customers bought especially in Athens. On the other hand we are able to identify some Etruscan influence on Greek culture, particularly in the adoption of bronze vessels as kantharoi and funnels, which compounded the wine drinking set. Etruscan bronze utensils, as censers made for burning incense, were a source of inspiration for similar Greek vessels. If we identify mainly the Greeks as producers and the Etruscans as recipients, without any transmitters, the model of cultural contact and cultural exchange suggested by Christoph Ulf is applicable also to the relationship between Greek and Etruscan cultures.
