The Role of Procalcitonin in the diagnosis of Acute Coronary Syndrome

118° Congresso Nazionale- Società Italiana di Medicina Interna Introduction: cardiovascular diseases represent the leading cause of mortality and morbidity bot in men and woman, and include both heart and blood vessels conditions. The aims of this study was to determine the levels of PCT in acute coronary syndrome. Materials and Methods: Between November 2015 and March 2016, 48 consecutive patients, aged 40 and 70 years were enrolled in the study. Results: among the 48 patients included in the study, chest pain was described in 25% patients with unstable angina, 12,5% patients with St elevation myocardial infarction and 62,5% with no ST elevation myocardial infarction. Conclusion: Studies on the use markers in ACS diagnosis, an inflammatory process indicate usability; but some other studies emphasize its insufficiency in diagnosis and se it only as predictor of heart patients survival.
