abstract:
The experimentally measured single helical states in the low aspect ratio (R/a=2) RELAX
device have been compared with the predictions of a cylindrical relaxation theory and a
substantial deviation in terms of some macroscopic characteristics has been found, in particular
for cases corresponding to a large reversal of the edge toroidal field.
In this paper we consider the effect of the toroidal geometry by employing the VMEC and the
RelaxFit equilibrium codes. We show that the inclusion of toroidicity produces significant
corrections to the cylindrical states, especially for the deep reversed cases.
