abstract:
The fundamental role played by Italian architects in military architecture since the Renaissance is a
known circumstance. Personalities such as Francesco di Giorgio Martini, Baccio Pontelli, Giuliano and
Antonio da Sangallo played a key role in the dissemination of increasingly effective and updated
solutions in the field of fortifications These solutions were propagated in the Mediterranean regions and
in the lands of the New World where the incidence of Italian works and artists whose extended in the
eighteenth century with the revaluation of the classical models.
This is the case of Venezuela, the subject of this paper, where both the irregular-plant type and the
quadrangular plant type are used, as well as the pentagonal scheme.
