Wavelet analysis at orbital time scales in Cretaceous paleomagnetic and lithological data series

abstract:
The aim of the present work is to search for orbital signature in paleomagnetic data in the framework of the debate about contributions to the geomagnetic field by orbital dynamics. Here we analyze paleomagnetic directions ( inclinations and declination) and lithological ( texture and dolomitizatiom ) Cretaceous time series from a sedimentary sequence. The study has been performed by means of Morlet wavelet transform to find out the local spectral contribution and the cross-correlations among all time series. Signatures at the orbital periods emerge both for paleomagnetic and lithological data, with no immediate phase relations between lithological and paleomagnetic data series. Inclination and declination show similar and in-phase behavior.
